Why do I have a single network name (SSID) for both the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands for my Wi-Fi network?

Why do I have a single network name (SSID) for both the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands for my Wi-Fi network? 

To enable compatible devices to connect to your WiFi network using the strongest and highest bandwidth signal to optmise device performance, the WiFi network has to have the same network name (SSID) for both WiFI bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz).
