Router Upgrade

Your Router Upgrade

We've recently completed an upgrade to your home router that will provide several improvements including:

  • Band Steering.
  • Additional tools for our Technical Support team.
  • Support for our upcoming Customer App – More information to follow in the coming weeks.
  • Compatibility with our new Smart Mesh system.

As part of these upgrades, you may see a change in your home network or potentially need to reconnect a few devices.

Changes to your home network (Band Steering)

Previously

You had two separate networks, one that was 2.4ghz and another that was 5ghz.

This meant that you had to change between the two manually and hope you’ve chosen the correct one for the best signal.

After the Upgrade

We're implementing a new feature called Band Steering.

This combines your two networks, allowing the devices to switch automatically between the two, to give the best signal

What you need to do

Once the upgrade to your Router is complete you may notice some devices disconnect.

All you need to do is reconnect them on the remaining network as you normally would.

This is done either by:

  • Accessing the device’s settings, or
  • Using the WPS button available on the Router

Band Steering

Once the devices are reconnected, the network will automatically choose the right one for it.

Standard Reconnect

Many devices connect to your network differently. Please follow your device instructions to guide you on how to connect to your home network.

Following the update, the 5ghz will disappear and you will only see the 2.4GHz option.

Don’t worry – Band Steering means that both are available on that one network now.

After you have selected the network, it may ask you for a password:

These details can be found at the bottom of your router on a sticker and will be labled SSID:

WPS – Wi-Fi Protected Setup

WPS is a way of connected devices to your network.

To use this function, all you need to do is follow your devices instructions, and press the WPS button when advised.

We've provide a picture to the right so you can find it easily if needed.

To connect manually your device, without the WPS, you will only need to search for the Wi-Fi name and connect to it with your password.
