Welcome to County Broadband!
This guide will help you to connect your devices to your new fibre router.
Connecting your device (Hardwire connection)
To connect a device to your router:
- Locate an Ethernet cable
- Plug one end to your device's Ethernet/LAN port
- Plug the other end to one of your router's yellow LAN ports (for Smart Wi-Fi Nodes, a LAN port can be located at the back of the device).
- Turn on your device and ensure it shows as connected.
Wi-Fi
Depending on whether or not you have our Smart Wi-Fi, there may be different options for you to connect to your broadband over Wi-Fi.
If you have Smart Wi-Fi enabled, you will only see one County Broadband connection (CountyBB-XXXXXX). This means that both of your 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz connections are merged into one, singular connection.
If you do not have Smart Wi-Fi enabled, then you will notice two separate connection options.
These connections are referred to as 2.4GHz (CountyBB-XXXXXX) and 5GHz (CountyBB-XXXXXX-5G).
Your 2.4GHz connection has a wider range throughout the house and will typically transmit an average of 50-75Mbps.
Your 5GHz connection works best in the same room as the router and can transmit higher speeds closer to the full speeds of your package.
To connect to either of your WiFi connections:
- Open your device's Wi-Fi settings and search for nearby networks.
- Locate the SSID (Wi-Fi name) on the sticker under your fibre router (For Smart W-Fi, this will be the name you configured when setting up the Node)
- Select this from the list and enter the password on the sticker under your router.
- Wait for your device to inform you that it is connected.
- Enjoy full fibre broadband!
Please note that some older or "basic model" devices may be unable to see the 5GHz connection due to this being a more recent technology. If you have any concerns about devices not being 5Ghz compatible, please refer to the manufacturer of the device.
